Helpful answers to your questions before beginning your design journey.
Because great home plans require more than good design. They also need to make sense in the real world ... and you should not have to sacrifice one for the other.
Drawn To Build does both. With the experience of dozens of real-life houses being built, every plan is created with both design and construction in mind.
Beautiful design. Real building experience.
Everything is handled through email. Share your ideas, sketches, inspiration photos, or existing plans, and we'll work together to create or improve your design.
Homeowners, builders, and DIYers looking for custom home plans, plan reviews, basement finish plans, or improvements to an existing design.
My experience comes from designing and building real homes for real families. I've worked on everything from efficient single-level ramblers to large custom two-story homes, as well as slab-on-grade and basement foundations.
Every project is different, but my focus is always the same: creating a home that looks great, functions well, and is practical to build.
SERVICES
A revision round consists of one consolidated list of requested changes submitted by the client. Multiple individual requests submitted separately may be considered additional revision rounds.
Every service includes an opportunity for feedback and adjustments. The exact number of revision rounds depends on the service selected:
Flat-rate services include one follow-up clarification round.
Existing Plan Modifications typically include two rounds of revisions.
Custom Plans include multiple revision rounds during the design process.
Additional revisions beyond the included scope can always be accommodated for an additional fee.
Yes, it's one of my favorite things to do! Plans can be designed from scratch based on your lot, lifestyle, budget, and preferences.
While I offer design services nationwide, my custom building company currently focuses exclusively on homes within a subdivision we have developed in Central Wisconsin.
If you're interested in relocating to the area and would like to learn more about building in our community, let me know in your email and I'd be happy to start that conversation.
Absolutely. You're welcome to come to me with a plan you like, but know could be improved.
Whether it's adjusting room sizes, improving traffic flow, adding square footage, redesigning a basement, or reworking an entire section of the home, I can help tailor a plan to better fit your family's needs.
Think of it as a second opinion before spending hundreds of thousands of dollars building it.
That would actually be helpful, yes. In fact, that's how many projects begin. Hand sketches, inspiration photos, Pinterest boards, screenshots, and existing floor plans are all helpful tools for communicating your vision.
My job is to take those ideas and turn them into a cohesive, functional, and buildable design.

Normally, yes. You'll need permission from the original plan owner if copyright restrictions apply.
PLANS AND CONSTRUCTION
The goal of the plans provided are to help move your project toward permitting and construction, but permit requirements vary by location.
That one, is a no. Structural design, beam sizing, truss design, foundation engineering, and other engineered components must be reviewed and approved by qualified professionals.
Basic fixture locations may be shown, but detailed mechanical, electrical, and plumbing plans are typically not included unless specifically requested.
Building codes vary by location. Final approval is the responsibility of your local building department and any required engineering professionals.
PRICING AND LOGISTICS
Every project is so different, so pricing depends on the size, complexity, and scope of work involved.
There are some simpler flat rate services offered between $125-$250, while a fully custom home plan is a much larger undertaking.
Reach out with a brief description of your project, and I'll be happy to provide a quote before any work begins.
For full-plan projects, typically a deposit is required before work begins, with the remaining balance due upon completion. As for flat-rate projects, the payment is due before the start of work.

Good design doesn't care how many square feet you have.
